PM Stables is located 4 miles due east of Mondamin (I-29 Exit 89) in Harrison County Iowa, nestled in the beautiful Loess Hills. It is about 10 minutes north of Missouri Valley, equally 10 minutes from Logan and about 20-25 minutes from Blair, Woodbine and Onawa. Most internet mapping programs will show my location much farther away from the Omaha Metro than it really is because of guiding you here totally along I-29 which curves hard to the west after Missouri Valley. Use the Old Lincoln Highway (L-20 aka Hwy 183) North from Mo Valley and save yourself 7 miles each way! (Or about 10-12 minutes each way as "Mapquest" over-estimates the trip time). For you "Locals", PM Stables is just a mile or so "behind" Smalls Fruit Farm (Hwy 127/183) on Irvine place just off 194th or 205th trail.
I personally chose this location to live and operate PM Stables because of its' pristine beauty, private setting and it's awesome touch of nature well away from all the noise and traffic of the Metro. I know gas prices have had their ups and downs since I moved here from Denver many years ago. Meanwhile, I find driving from here to the Mormon Bridge (state-line) on I-680, is only about 30 minutes or so doing the speed limit. So for those of you in the Metro, you can use that as a gauge.
I am an avid trail-rider and still dig being able to just saddle up here, without having to hook up a trailer to "find" the country thus truly enjoying hours with my horse in such a very rural and peaceful setting. So when considering the distance to PM Stables, it really just depends on where you live, how often you plan to see your horse and if you're happy with where you may be boarding your horse now. I've certainly heard stories of how some folks are unhappy with busy crowded barns and arenas, urban noise, or just tired of the traffic experienced by riding along busy urban roadsides. You won't find any of that here at PM Stables.
Boarding here is kind of like having your horse at your own personal home, away from home. Again, I run a small operation here.
